Only one thing has reduced deaths from breast cancer — and it isn't mammography

Last week, we saw new guidelines come out for mammography. I discussed those guidelines in my last health alert. As I said in that alert, the new guidelines don't go far enough. In the upcoming December issue of Second Opinion, I show you strong evidence that mammograms can increase your risk of breast cancer by 57%. So I say any routine screening with mammography is wrong.

Amazingly, many claim the old screening guidelines reduced the death rate of breast cancer. But this is a farce. Yes, the death rate from breast cancer has declined sharply. In fact, its decline accounts for the 37% of the 650,000 reduction in the overall death rate in the U.S. between 1990 and 2005.

But there's only one thing that's reduced breast cancer death rates. It's not more screening. It's not better surgical methods. And it's not drugs. Well, actually, it has to do with drugs — but not in the way you might think. Let me explain.

Decades ago, and without any evidence, Big Pharma went on a blitz promoting hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Were a vitamin company to promote a true claim, but not to the FDA's despotic specifications, it would be closed up immediately.

The result of the huge media push from Big Pharma? Millions of women started using the drugs. And within just a few years, HRT was responsible for hundreds of thousands of needless breast cancer cases. The proof was incontrovertible — HRT caused breast cancer. And it killed women.

Once the news was out, women stopped taking the drugs. And the rate of death from breast cancer dropped rapidly.

So don't believe what you're hearing about mammography screening saving millions of lives. While it may have saved some, it's caused far more damage across the board. So don't believe what you're hearing. And don't submit to routine mammography screening.

Yours for better health and medical freedom,

Robert Jay Rowen, MD

THE POWERS OF GRATITUDE

The Grace of Gratitude
By Aine Belton

Gratitude and appreciation will raise your vibration, open your heart, and elevate you from even the darkest of places.

In appreciating and feeling grateful for something or someone, you essentially 'receive' it (i.e. the very essence you feel grateful for), as well as give to it from your heart, which effectively aligns your vibration to it, and directs your focus, attention and energy towards it.

Gratitude attunes your heart and mind to that which is positive in your life.

When you feel grateful you get to experience the beautiful qualities of that which you feel grateful for. It connects you to what you love and appreciate which enhances your state in a graceful and magical way.

Gratitude is the sweet song of appreciation. It turns an experience, person or event into a gift that is received, for when you appreciate and feel grateful, you literally let the experience/quality in, and you also give to it. It is a wonderful exchange of positive energies.

Whatever you focus on grows, so when you appreciate someone, see their value and beauty and feel grateful for it, those qualities will expand and grow in your life.

When you focus on everything in your life you have to feel grateful for, and all the wonderful things, experiences and people you appreciate, the universe hands you more of the same. It's a fantastic abundance expanding experience.

You might like to keep a gratitude journal and write down at the end of each day 10 things you feel grateful for over the last 24 hours to assist you in experiencing more of this wondrous, generative, heart-opening energy of gratitude!

Easy Healthy Greens Recipe

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil
2 heads of broccoli, cut up into pieces
1 large or 2 small zucchini, sliced
1 clove of garlic, minced
2 cups organic vegetable or chicken broth
Sea salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Heat the olive oil in a large pan - the larger the better, and the pan should have a lid. Set heat to between medium and high, but closer to medium.

2. Add the broccoli to the pan and stir fry for a minute. Add the vegetable or chicken broth and garlic. Cover the pan. Once the broth comes to a boil, turn the heat down to low and let simmer.

3. Stir occasionally.

4. Wait for the broccoli to turn a bright green color, then wait a couple of more minutes so that it develops a little bit of tenderness. Then add the zucchini.

5. Add sea salt and pepper to taste. But be careful if you happen to use broth that is salted - if so, you might only need a small pinch of salt, if any.

6. Once the zucchini and broccoli are tender, the dish is ready to eat with your favorite whole grain dish, or even with a side of eggs, beans, or lentils.

Please note: There should always be a little bit of the broth at the bottom of the pan.

Don't cover it again, even after you've cooked it, otherwise it will continue cooking from the residual heat and the vegetables will turn color.

P.S. If your local market carries Shanghai bok choy, do give it a go with this recipe. It's sweet, juicy, and makes everything that you eat with it taste better. :)

The Wonders of Red Apple Cider Vinegar - A Natural Way to Help Your Body

Vinegar has been used in one form or another for over 10,000 years
and is still in use today. It is used for many purposes and through
out the ages has served as a preservative, condiment, beauty aid,
weight reducer, cleaning agent and medicine. Apple Cider Vinegar
is cheap, easy to use and it really benefits our health in numerous
ways. It is available in organic form in health food stores across
the country, on the shelves of your local grocery food chains and
also in capsule form as a product so safe, it can be used for
children with weight problems and people with high blood pressure
and diabetes.

Some Important facts

1) ACV absorbs and blocks fat formation, boosts the immune system,
supplies amino acids, minerals and vitamins, aids in metabolism to help
burn and metabolize food efficiently. Helps lower fats and cholesterol
in the body. Research has discovered that pectin, one of the main
ingredients in Apple Cider Vinegar, is an amazing nutrient which can
actually help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

2) Pure, red apple cider vinegar is the only vinegar to use. It is made
from apples. White vinegar can be made from lots of by-products such as
wood pulp and should not be recommended for any use. "An apple a day
(one tablespoon of red apple cider vinegar) keeps the doctor away,"

3) Use ACV to eliminate bacteria from organic and conventional
vegetables with ACV, spray wait 5 minutes and rinse. ACV has the ability
to prevent the growth of bacteria and mold.

4) Hippocrates, the father of medicine thought of it as a powerful
elixir and a naturally occurring antibiotic and antiseptic that fights
germs. Ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks used it. And Apple Cider
Vinegar is mentioned in the Bible as an antiseptic and healing agent.
Even Columbus had barrels of vinegar on his ships for the prevention of
scurvy. Indeed, Apple Cider Vinegar has been used for thousands of
years, as both a health and cleansing agent.

5) Apple Cider Vinegar can benefit both people and their pets. It is
antibacterial and anti-fungal and gives the immune system a great boost.
As a high potassium electrolyte balancer, it remineralizes the body and
helps normalize the blood’s alkaline acid balance. It is proven to be
most beneficial to people or animals with arthritis because it breaks
down calcium deposits in the joints while remineralizing the bones. It
has proven to be equally beneficial to dogs with hip dysplasia. In
animals, it is helpful in skin and coat problems. Use one teaspoonful
in the dog or cat’s drinking water daily as a healthy tonic.

6) Apple Cider Vinegar is a good remedy for food poisoning and helpful
in digestive upsets. It is also effective for urinary tract infections
and it lowers high blood pressure. Keep a small container of ACV near
the bed of someone ailing due to a cold or the flu. The inhaled fumes
actually kills germs and viruses. For those on
diuretics, it is helpful in replacing potassium depletion. Use Two
teaspoonfuls in a pint of water,

For centuries, people have recognized apple cider vinegar’s health
benefits to fight infection, promote digestion, and even in fighting
osteoporosis. So when you prepare a salad dressing using apple cider
vinegar and extra virgin olive oil, you’re reaping large health benefits
as well as good taste!
How to Rejuvenate Your Liver -
3 Informative Facts

1. SAM-e

A normal healthy liver regularly regenerates itself, producing new cells by replacing old worn out ones. When liver disease occurs parts of the liver become hard and inactive,
Studies have shown that patients with liver disease have abnormally low levels of SAM-e. When adding SAM-e via supplementing, studies show it normalizes over-all liver functions. It acts as the precursor compound for cysteine and taurine, and a tripeptide called glutathione, which is an important detoxifier and free radical scavenger in the body.
(Glutathione also inhibits the inflammatory response allowing other benefits such as an effective aid in treating osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and joint pain. It has also been successfully used as an antidepressant and migraine reliever.)
Studies have shown that patients with cirrhosis of the liver who incorporate supplemental SAM-e to their daily intake normalize their overall liver function. There are many reliable sources for purchasing SAM-e. Follow packaging instructions and consult your health care professional for further details.

2. Probiotics

The friendly bacteria our bodies rely on for metabolizing foods, absorbing nutrients, and preventing colonization of harmful bacteria are know as probiotics. Bifidobacteria are a natural part of the bacterial flora in the human body concentrated in the lower small intestine and large intestine, and act as guards, preventing harmful microbes from invading the small intestine where most digestion and nutrient absorption takes place.
Secretions of harmful microbes can strain the liver, but a healthy population of bifidobacteria act to suppress harmful microbes. The liver has many chemical functions in the body including decomposing and detoxifying poisonous substances absorbed from the intestine hence lightening the toxin load. Regular ingestion of probiotics assist the functions of the liver and can ward off many diseases by strengthening the immune system, thus combating the effects of allergies, excessive alcohol consumption, stress and toxic substances. It is wise to consult your health care professional such as a holistic nutritionist for the best way to incorporate probiotics into your particular body type and its needs.

3. Used In Combination

The supplementing of Sam-e along with probiotics to aid in proper absorption creates a combination that can produce optimal conditions for liver health. Many positive side effects can also occur. Perhaps other improvements emerge that you may or may not immediately recognize, perhaps soon you’ll realize your moods are lighter, your joints are loser. Oh and where’s that gut irritation that bothers you from certain foods you eat? Gone??

A revolutionary approach to controlling dangerous germs:

Jacob Harich was born in Yugoslavia in 1919 and educated in Germany. His studies in nuclear physics evolved to medicine, specializing in gynecology and immunology. Following his tour of duty as a fighter pilot in WWII, his sentiments turned toward improving the human condition.

Jacob’s interest in grapefruit came about after biting into a grapefruit and encountering the bitter taste of a seed. His scientific background and curiosity prompted him to research the beginning qualities of this fascinating fruit.

Dr. Harich continued his studies in the US. He presented his findings to Dr. Steven Otwell and Dr. Wayne Marshall at the food science laboratory, University of Florida, Gainesville. Both researchers specialized in the effects of microbes on food. They became very impressed with Dr. Harich’s findings and serious testing began. Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) was found to be extremely effective in protecting produce, fish, and poultry from the on slot of bacteria, parasites and fungi.

By the early 1990’s, wholistic health practitioners in the United States began to hear about this remarkable product. Hence, it is now being used successfully by many alternative medicine professionals. In 1995 Dr. Harich was a guest of honor of the Pasteur Institute of France, Europe’s leading AIDS research center. For several years the Institute has been researching the potential of GSE as a prophylactic against the HIV virus as well as against some of the secondary infections associated with AIDS. He was also honored by farmers in Europe who now use a powdered form of GSE in fish and poultry feed to fight two potentially lethal bacteria, Salmonella and E. Coli.

Dr. Harich died in May of 1996. Fortunately he received much of the recognition he deserved, for a life devoted to a revolutionary approach to controlling dangerous germs.

Grapefruit Seed Extract is being used by many hospitals and clinics throughout the United States as the disinfectant and sanitizing agent of choice for their laundry. GSE ensures that the linen is fungi and bacteria free. As little as 10 - 15 drops of GSE added to the final rinse does the job.

GSE is used to kill bacteria like Strep, Staph, Salmonella, E. Coli, and also to fight Candida, Herpes, Influenza, parasites, fungi and traveler’s diarrhea. It is non-toxic, biodegradable, and economical, with no harmful side-effects. Many laboratories around the world, as well as doctors, veterinarians, farmers and consumers are touting its praise.

Where To Start – A Wholistic Approach To Curing Anxiety

Starting with diet and lifestyle chances vitamin and mineral
therapy is the safest and in many situations the most effective.
But remember there are other alternative solutions available if
needed. Here is some information to consider. These are generalized
and do not necessarily apply to everyone but you may find some things
of great value.

Before blood testing for allergies regarding anxiety, consider healing
and enhancing the nervous system with nutrition, vitamin and/or herbal therapy.
It may take an effort on one's part to adjust to a healthier life style but the benefits
far surpass the relief from anxiety or depression. The following listings are some
of what may benefit a natural alternative approach to improving the nervous
system. Incorporating even a few changes can bring about a noticeable difference.

The mental and emotional state attributed to anxiety can stem from a wide range
of causes. A biochemical imbalance characterized by amino acid and other
nutrient deficiencies is a good physiological place to start your exploration.

The nervous system is the first to be affected by stress and tension. POOR
NERVE HEALTH can spawn a host of physical and mental conditions, some of
which are: undesirable defense mechanisms to full fledged neuroses created
from a feeling of apprehension and dread of the future to unrestricted, excess
anxiety.

Common Symptoms: extreme nervousness and irritability, sometimes
accompanied by high blood pressure, inability to relax, lack of energy,
chronic headaches, neck stiffness, dizziness, palpitations and heart
disease proneness.

Common Causes: too many refined foods, especially sugars, smoking,
unrelieved mental or emotional stress, hyperthyroidism and metabolic
imbalance, prostaglandin (hormone like substances) deficiency.

Food Therapy:

Diet improvement is a key factor in controlling nerve health. Add to the diet
regularly: high fiber foods, fresh greens, vegetables proteins, and natural sulfur
foods such as oat bran, lettuce, cucumber and celery. B vitamin foods are
important; eat plenty of brown rice, whole grains and leafy greens.

Special Foods:

Try fresh carrot/celery juice for nerve restoration, Garlic capsules (6 per day) or
fresh, garlic.

Avoid acid forming foods, such as red meats, caffeine, carbonated drinks - the
phosphorus binds up magnesium, making it unavailable. Magnesium is a key
mineral in nerve health.

Vitamin Therapy:

Asorbate or Ester Vitamin C 3-5,000 mg. daily with bioflavoids and rutin 500mg.
each. Calcium with high Magnesium 500mg. 2x daily, Vitamin E 400UI daily,
B Complex 100mg. daily and high Omega 3 Flax Oil or Salmon Oil 3x daily.

(Vitamin C with bioflavonoids is a natural tranquilizer and can help withdrawal from
drugs and chemical dependencies.)

Herbal Therapy:

Effective nervines: chamomile, Peppermint/hops, Rosemary, Skullcap, passion
flower, all available in capsule or tea form.

Body Work:

A brisk walk with deep breathing every day for body oxygen, regular massage
therapy treatments.

Consider any or all of the above for natural start to a healthier well being.

Treating Depression: Supplements Or Antidepressants?

There’s a growing belief among certain Clinical Psychiatrists that diet is a major factor to consider in treating depression and other behavioral related conditions. Many now look beyond the usual complaints (such as, mood swings, insomnia, anxiety, headaches, foggy brain and memory, heavy fatigue, perimenopause and low level libido) of how one is feeling. A close look at patient’s daily eating habits including possible patterns regarding mood swings, nightly sleep habits, and daily energy levels as well as other symptoms of concern is a wise place to begin. Adding a series of detailed blood tests that include anemia, blood sugar levels and thyroid function is important as they are all considered contributors to depression.

The nutritional testing of a patient’s magnesium, chromium, zinc, B vitamins, estrogen levels, adrenal function and toxin levels play an important role in the psychiatrist’s decision to prescribe antidepressant drugs or choosing to recommend supplementing the patient’s diet. For example, depending on the gathered test results patients may be advised to take chromium, which evens out blood sugar levels, and/or magnesium, which is vital for brainpower. A specific supplement for Candida, a menopause support formula, or a remedy to help restore adrenal function may be in order as well.

In closely followed cases where patients adhere to this mode of treatment within the first week of the outlined programs there were reports of “feeling much better.” Regular follow up with testing and supplement adjustments resulted in continuous improvement, and for others, a complete disappearance of symptoms. Getting the brain and body in a cooperative mode through nutritionally rich foods and supplements is a growing alternative to antidepressant drugs in up and coming medical circles.

Dr, Hyla Cass, an expert in nutritional medicine and an assistant clinical professor at UCLA, long ago became convinced that no form of psychotherapy can be fully effective if the brain isn't functioning properly. And to do that the brain needs optimal nourishment, something she says is increasingly hard to come by in the typical American diet. "Depressed, tired, overweight women are often told they need Prozac," Cass says, "when in fact all they really need to get their brains and bodies on track is a steady supply of real food." She recommends that her patients drink lots of water and eat organic vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and lean protein. "Diets high in refined foods, sugars, and unhealthy fats can actually interfere with our natural brain chemistry."
Dr. Cass is author of several popular books. http://www.cassmd.com/about.html

Our Observations & Conclusions On Illness

From the Staff and Contributors of The Path News:

We encourage you to discuss and comment on this our first posted article of 2009. We look forward to your participation!

In our on going health studies and research to bring honest and healthful findings to the articles posted we have repeatedly observed and concluded the following views:

1) The continued indulgence of a poor diet and stressful lifestyle plays a tremendous part in what eventually leads to disease.

2) The two main causes of ill health are nutritional deficiencies and cellular toxicity.

Allowing for the exceptions of permanent organ injury, weak inherited genes and birth defects, human suffering and dis-ease stems from an improper diet and toxin absorption to a cellular level.

Such contaminants are those in beverages and food as well as chemicals absorbed through the skin, such as toxins in household cleaners, cosmetics, soaps, shampoos, deodorants etc. Also toxins absorbed and ingested through water such as fluoride and chlorine, and the list goes on....

When continuous ingestion and exposure to environmental contaminants and toxic air is present the dis-ease process begins. This places the cells, tissues, organs and the body systems in disorder, thus stressing the entire body which in turn eventually creates dis-ease. When cells don’t function properly organs suffer and the system break-down begins.

The Body’s Limbo Stage:

At the limbo stage the person is neither healthy nor seriously ill. They are somewhere between a disease label and a life threatening illness. It is here that medical doctors usually prescribe a barrage of procedures and tests.

Nothing is found because the testing for hormonal evaluation, immune profiles, blood pathologies, urinalysis, PET Scan, CT Scanning and MRI’s lack the capabilities to provide early detection. The patient’s results will probably show no signs of irregularities therefore they may be subjected to the following summations: just getting older, tests are negative, clean bill of health, or are labeled hypochondriac or psychosomatic.

Not only are there numerous conditions that are not recognized using the above mentioned diagnostic testing but what about the emotional evolvement consisting of anxiety, stress, bitterness, anger, lack of forgiveness, all the bottled up emotions that eventually lead to physical ailments. There is nothing available in allopathic testing that can detect these disease causing dispositions.

Enter The Pharmaceuticals:

More often than not a solution may be in the form of an appeasement for the symptoms. This is done with the use of pharmaceuticals which only masks the symptoms as the undetected problem worsens over time due to lack of proper treatment.

Due to limited laboratory testing, detection is restricted to chronic and severe conditions where lack of knowing causes little to be done for prevention. It is here that the allopathic approach fails its patients.

There has been advancement in areas of detection for rheumatoid arthritis, kidney failure, strokes, cirrhosis of the liver, hepatitis, heart attacks, and metastasized cancer etc. However, nothing is offered to address the ‘limbo stage’ of dis-ease.

However the practiced principles of a healthy diet and lifestyle play a tremendous part in the avoidance of nutritional deficiencies and cellular toxicities.

If you’re in the limbo stage right now and you need the proper tools and know-how to save yourself and loved ones from the clenches of dis-ease perhaps the postings to come in our Cure The Incurable Blogs will be enlightening. The Kaizen Method

The Kaizen Method:
How to Use this Japanese Philosophy to Achieve Your Most Challenging Goals

by Brian Vaszily, founder of IntenseExperiences.com

“Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Kaizen!

Try saying it aloud – it rhymes with “pie men” – because it’s a fun word to say, saying it aloud will help you remember it, and as you’ll see it is a very powerful concept to remember. And then consider this:

How many of your big goals, big dreams, and big projects have still not been achieved? How many have been relegated to the “I’ll Get to It Later” or “Maybe Someday” or even the “Forget It, It’s Impossible” files of your life?

It’s time to pull them out, because using the kaizen method you can, and you will.

Accomplish the great task by a series of small acts.
- Tao Te Ching
“Kaizen” is an underlying philosophy that drives the Japanese business world, and it is particularly associated with Toyota Motor Corporation.

Loosely translated it means “continuous improvement,” and the kaizen method works in accordance with human nature and common sense, resulting in a most efficient and effective way to achieve major goals. In Japan’s corporate world, that translates to the fastest successful completion of large projects and shifts in doing business with big savings in terms of time and money.

The American auto industry should pay closer attention to it, but this is not about GM and Ford. It is about how you can use one aspect of kaizen to most rapidly, efficiently and effectively achieve the biggest and most challenging goals in your life.

There are multiple dimensions to kaizen, but for the purposes of rapidly and dramatically improving your productivity and well-being, we’ll focus on its commitment to taking small, manageable steps to make big changes. It is about both shifting the way you see as well as do when it comes to the projects and goals in your life.

To understand this, it is important to realize what you innately already know well: the human brain is highly resistant to big changes. Though it may not resemble Dick Cheney, your brain is highly conservative and cannot stand the idea of having to push itself and the rest of you to do things very differently. Big change goes against human nature and so your brain fears what it perceives as likely failure.

On the other hand, your brain is a-ok with having to make small changes. Small shifts in the routine are inevitable, they happen every day, and your brain is quite used to them. In fact, your brain would freak out and possibly assume you were dead if it wasn’t routinely facing small changes.

So when you read a new dietary book and decide “I’ve got to abandon everything I’m regularly consuming and start eating in an entirely different way” … or you buy a home gym and decide “Instead of sitting on the couch I’ve got to work out five days a week” … or inspired by J.K. Rowling’s billion-dollar-plus net worth you decide “I’m going to write a book series as successful as Harry Potter” … your brain shouts back “No way, that’s way too much to do, too much change, far too overwhelming. Just hand me the remote and let’s see what’s on TV.”

And you put things off to tomorrow. And then to the tomorrow after that. And so on. The big projects and the big goals go unachieved.

To put it another way, bite off more than you’re brain wants to chew and you’re going to choke.

Work With, Not Against, Your Brain … with the Kaizen Method
As mentioned, kaizen is as much about seeing as it is doing. If your brain sees that, at the point B you desire to get to from your current point A, you are going to be eating completely different foods for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks than you currently enjoy, it wants to run the other way. That’s a big change.

If, on the other hand, it sees that you merely want to make a small change -- you are just going to replace the soda pop you normally drink at lunch with a glass of water – it thinks, “Yeah, no big deal, we can achieve that, that’s cool.”

You will then do that small change and, because mentally it is not an overwhelming challenge, be very likely to succeed. And then a few days to a few weeks later, you can incorporate the next small change recommended in the big dietary program you ultimately want to call your own…

“Starting today we’re going to stop eating Twinkies for our evening snack and instead we’re going to eat some kind of fruit or vegetable, okay brain?”

“Well I love Twinkies, but if it will help us feel better and live longer and you’re only stopping them in the evening then okay, we can do that.”

“Yeah, only in the evening, don’t worry brain.” (Wink wink.)

Obviously, using kaizen to succeed at making healthy changes in your life is just one example. Kaizen can and should be applied to absolutely every large-scale project and goal you have:

Not getting enough sleep at night? Instead of shifting your life too dramatically and trying to go to bed two hours earlier starting tomorrow, just commit to going to bed ten minutes earlier every night this week. Then next week, work on another ten minutes earlier than that, and so on.

Want to improve a combative relationship? Instead of agreeing never to argue again, agree to make one day per week an “argument-free zone.” Then after a month agree to add another day to the zone, and so on.

Need to move a hill from one side of your yard to another? Try to push and shove the whole hill and you are bound for failure. Instead commit to moving just ten shovelfuls of dirt today, ten tomorrow, and so on.

By breaking your intimidating mammoth project down into small manageable goals – seeing each of the small goals and then only concerning yourself with successfully doing whatever small goal is next on your list – you’ll be amazed at the impossible you can achieve.

Kaizen!
